What dates are NYC schools closed? ›

For 2023-2024, that number will go up to 182 instructional days. Days that students no longer have off include Rosh Hashanah, Diwali (which was announced with much fanfare as a school holiday last year), Veteran's Day, and Eid al-Adha, as well as a spring break no longer aligned with the last two days of Passover.

At Stanford, students can study abroad for a full quarter, including the summer quarter, or take two-to-three week “overseas seminars” during the summer. If students can't commit to a full quarter of studying abroad, Stanford also offers Alternative Spring Breaks.

The academic calendar is composed of two semesters. Fall semester starts in late August (with first-year students arriving a week early for placement tests and adjustment to campus life) and ends in mid-December after final exams. Spring semester starts at the end of January and finishes in mid-May after final exams.
