The One Piece Themed Gym is Finally Open (2024)

A new gym in Tokyo has been under development for some time, with many people anxiously awaiting its opening. Of course, we would not be writing about it here if it was just another normal gym to get fit and healthy. No, this particular gym is extremely special - it's a collaboration gym with one of the most famous and beloved anime of all time, One Piece! And now, that gym is finally open.

That's right, this gym is anything but ordinary. Called ONE PIECE FITNESS BragMen, this one-of-a-kind gym is bringing an all new kind of collaboration to the anime world. Japan has no shortage of interesting anime collaborations, from the obvious cafés and daily products to more unique things like service areas and even roller coasters. This is, however, the first anime-themed gym to open anywhere in the world (at least to our knowledge).

Why One Piece?

BragMen could not have chosen a better anime than One Piece, either. It is regularly ranked as the most popular anime in Japan. At 1,043 episodes long at the time of writing, it has been airing since 1999 and has 20 seasons so far. One Piece is loved across demographics, and is one of the few anime to have permanent shops called Mugiwara Stores set up dedicated purely to its merchandise that you can visit any time.

It is not even really considered "otaku" in Japan to like One Piece, the anime has become so mainstream and such a normal part of daily life (Luffy is one of Japan's international representatives, after all, alongside characters like Pikachu and Mario). That means that by collaborating with One Piece, BragMen is able to reach out to a lot of potential customers. Of course, some will be hardcore anime fans, but others will just have grown up with One Piece or enjoy watching it just as much as the next person.

So What are the Details?

There are a lot of parts of the BragMen gym that tie it to its One Piece inspiration. Firstly, the gym's interior design is reminiscent of the cargo hold on a ship. There are crates along the walls, exposed piping, and brushed concrete floors and walls that are a far cry from the usual more sterile interiors of gyms in Japan. There is even at least one machine that has weights shaped like the cartoon meat Luffy likes to eat!

BragMen offers training regimes that are based on One Piece as well. For example, you can enroll in the "Beauty" program to get a body like Nami, or the original program to get fit enough to work on the ship with the Straw Hat Pirates! There are classes for all fitness levels, and children, too, and they are all promoted with manga art from One Piece related to that program.

The fitness classes even offer a chance to be trained by a digital version of characters like Luffy, who lead the class from a screen on the deck of the ship as you follow along with their commands. These all take place on an area called "The Deck," which is separate from the rest of the gym where you can use the other equipment in the equally themed space.

Anything Extra?

ONE PIECE FITNESS BragMen is in Japan, so that means there are also collaboration goods for sale, and an on-site themed café! Some of the things you can buy are workout clothes with One Piece characters on them, towels, and a protein shaker. You can also get whey protein powder in a few different flavors complete with character art.

In the café, you can order a protein shake made from the special protein powder either to enjoy there, or for take away. You can also get one protein-heavy meal that includes a motif of Luffy's scar and a mustache, BragMen's logo. Considering the gym just opened this month, we imagine that there will be more food choices available in the future.

ONE PIECE FITNESS BragMen just opened to the public this month, and it already has a full schedule posted on its website. Membership prices are based on the times of day you want to have access to the gym, with the most flexible packages being the most expensive. Most packages also contain four classes on the Deck allowed per month. The membership prices range from ¥15,400 ($118USD) at the cheapest and ¥27,500 ($212USD) for the most flexible plan per month.

It is located a short walk from Shibuya Station in downtown Tokyo. And conveniently, one of the biggest Mugiwara Stores in Tokyo is just a short walk away, so you can get fit and get your merchandise all in one stop! It will be interesting to see what kind of momentum this business gets, and what kinds of others it may inspire in the future. For now One Piece was undeniably a safe place to start, and we will be keeping our eyes on BragMen.
